This year’s trip to Canada centered around the World Brotherhood Camporee, in which our troop has participated since the inception of the event in
1974. We saw some new sites this time around, adding an extra day to the trip so we could visit the Royal Canadian Mint and the Canada Aviation Museum. Tag along with us by scrolling through the photos below:
Our first stop was at the Canadian Scout Shop where some of the guys bought souvenirs such as Canadian Scout patches and hats (and for some - dry
socks!). We also took a brief look at their collection of Scouting memorabilia from around the world in their museum. Note the totem pole and the interesting awning at the front entrance.

As we drove through downtown Ottawa, we got to see how well the Canadians have preserved green, open space, particularly along the Rideau Canal.

After a quick picnic lunch, we ventured over to the Royal Canadian Mint.
We couldn’t take pictures inside, but we found this “Mounty” on the grounds.

Here’s the view of the Mint from outside. You’ll have to take the trip in person to see how silver, gold, and other metals are refined and
processed to make coins, collectibles, and even the medals for the Olympic games.

Here’s a group photo at another tour stop - the Canada Aviation Museum.

Inside the museum, we got to see a large collection of aircraft and many of the internal components. Below, Matt learns about the Bernoulli
principle while Chris and Danny do experiments with air pressure. Sean, Jeff, and Brad learn about the synchronization of a cannon and the radial engine - a critical feature to prevent the destruction of the prop!

Here among the vast collection are some of the Canadian training aircraft of the past.

Back in camp, there was work to be done, setting up the famous giant tent where we had our meals and traded patches with the thousands who attended the
camporee.

Other special features this year included James’ presentation from the Canadian Raptor Conservancy, including a chance to get up close and personal
with this Golden Eagle.

And of course we traded patches!
